Navigating the Rule of Law Report

A Training Session for Effective Contributions by Civil Society

In the first weeks of April, Carla held a number of focus groups with civil society actors in order to recieve feedback on the training and guidance document that was being developed for the project. Through these meetings, the feedback provided allowed her to understand better the needs and support needed for civil society to effectively contribute to the EC Rule of Law report.

Two trainings were then carried out online with a total participation of around 20 representatives of NGOs, civil society networks and academia. The training focused on:

  • Providing civil society with necessary knowledge through the training; and
  • Providing useful tips and a methodology that can be used by civil society.

The presentation used throughout the training can be found below:

Furthermore, in order to enhance the support to CSOs wishing to submit their own feedback to the European Commission during the next cycle a Guidance document for civil society submissions to the annual EC Rule of Law report was drafted and also disseminated to the participants. The document can be downloaded freely from here:

The training and the guidance document were commissioned by SOS Malta as part of the Active Citizens Fund Malta programme funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants and Norway Grants.
