For more than a decade, asylum seekers have been the object of political rhetoric, policy documents and service provision, academic research, NGO activism and media headlines. Often silenced, their lives and stories have been manipulated, framed, and represented by others.
As authors of their own personal narrative, in ‘Our Island II’, the story-teller fills each page with personal experiences, perspectives & first-hand accounts. These are human stories that capture the complexity of what it means to be feared & yet loved, strong & yet vulnerable, lonely & yet missed, scared & yet hopeful.
Never has it been more urgent that the stories of refugees in Malta be documented & acknowledged, that their perspectives be included & considered, & that their voices be heard, as we collectively attempt to navigate contemporary challenges, injustices & inequalities.
