Jointly implemented with UNHCR Malta Office.

‘Meet the Other’ is analysing the integration levels of refugees & beneficiaries of subsidiary protection to better understand their conditions, challenges, experiences, quality of life & integration both with each other & the Maltese community.

Interviews are being conducted with refugees living around Malta & include a variety of nationalities including Somalis, Eritreans, Nigerians & Ethiopians.

Both male & female refugees are being included, as well as different family units, such as single or married refugees & refugees who have settled in Malta with their families.

The interviews focus on the main issues faced by refugees when living in a host community, including access to employment, education, social services, & general social participation.

The main aims of the project are to identify the tools used by refugees to successfully integrate into Maltese society, to gather more information about their situation & to establish which specific areas require further attention to improve integration success.

Through the interviews, useful & practical information is also being disseminated to the refugee community.

It is hoped that as a result of this process, UNHCR & aditus will be in a position to use the gathered & analysed information as an awareness-raising tool for both refugees & the Maltese.  Improving the standard of living of refugees & beneficiaries of subsidiary protection is at the heart of ‘Meet the Other’.

Meet the Other‘ was launched in July 2011 & is on-going.
